Richard May is head of the Corporate practice group at DLA Piper in Sheffield and took on the role of managing partner at the office in September 2011.

Richard advises on all aspects of acquisitions and disposals of companies and businesses, both in the UK and internationally. An experienced M&A practitioner, he specialises in private equity transactions, advising both management and investors on some of the largest transactions undertaken in Yorkshire.

He acts for corporate clients and for management teams on management buy-in and buyout transactions and handles the corporate aspects of property joint ventures and SPVs. He works with clients on shareholders' agreements and articles of association and advises boards of listed PLCs on fundraising and compliance issues.

In addition to transactional work, Richard advises public limited companies and private limited companies on the broad range of company law regulatory compliance and company secretarial issues.

Richard joined the Sheffield office of DLA Piper (then Dibb Lupton Broomhead) as a trainee solicitor in 1995. Sixteen years later, he now leads the office.
