Redhall wins £20m nuclear contract

SPECIALIST engineering firm Redhall has secured a contract with the company responsible for Britain’s nuclear warheads that could be worth £20m.

Wakefield-based Redhall will design, manufacture and install specially engineered doors at the Atomic Weapons Establishment’s facility in Burghfield, Berkshire.

AWE provides and maintains the warheads for the Trident nuclear missiles which are assembled and decommissioned at Burghfield.

In a stock market update, the company said the first phase of work is due to start shortly and is expected to be a part of a £20m contract that will be staged over the next four years.

Redhall chairman David Jackson said: “We are delighted with this latest contract win and our developing relationship with AWE in support of its future plans.

“This award demonstrates Redhall’s growing reputation for delivering specialist turnkey engineering projects in demanding nuclear and defence arenas. “

The contract is a welcome boost for Redhall which last year mounted a takeover bid for York-based Mount Engineering but eventually lost out to a rival offer from Cooper Controls.

Redhall has said it remains on the hunt for potential acquisitions.
