Duo in harmony with opera tours launch

A COMPANY has been launched to by a Malton-based businesswoman and the former director of music at St Peter’s School in York, to offer guided opera tours of Lucca and Parma in Italy.

Opera Tours Italy has seen Debbie England team up with opera expert Andrew Wright to launch the group tours business.

The five day tours will be held during the Puccini and Verdi opera festivals.

Opera Tours Italy will offer travellers stays at hand-picked hotels and tickets to the festivals as well as tours from opera expert Mr Wright.

The idea was born over five years ago while Ms England, a Yorkshire-based businesswoman, and former teacher Mr Wright were in Florence on an opera trip.

The pair identified a gap in the market for a holiday that brought the specialist knowledge of opera, art and Italian architecture to seasoned opera goers and budding enthusiasts alike.

Ms England said: “While in Florence with my son on a school trip, Andrew and I identified the opportunity for a more specialist, hands-on escorted trip which would offer dedicated insight to the festivals.

“Now, with the growing demand for more experience-led holidays, we felt it was the right time to launch the tours for adults looking for something different.

“We’ve worked with hotel partners in Lucca and Parma, teamed up with organisers of both the Puccini festival and Verdi festival to secure the most sought-after tickets and worked tirelessly to develop a dedicated itinerary which combines every element of classic Italy.”

Mr Wright has worked in music for 37 years and has led music tours across Europe and the USA.

He said: “I have lectured and taught music and art for many years, and when I retired, I wanted to do something that continues my love of music so Opera Tours Italy was perfect.

“I look forward to sharing my enthusiasm and expertise with both budding opera enthusiasts as well as existing fans alike.”
