Casino looks to take gaming to the next level

UP to 50 jobs are to be created thanks to the construction of a £5m casino.

The G Casino Sheffield will offer 24 hour gaming from a state-of-the-art venue in Sheffield.

The casino, which will open in the former Mecca Bingo building in Duchess Road, will take over from the Grosvenor Casino in the city, which is owned by the same group and is closing.

A team of more than 110 people will be employed at the venue, including 45 to 50 new positions.

The 23,500 sq ft casino will offer 10 gaming tables, 33 electronic gaming terminals and 24 jackpot slot machines. A 110-seat poker room will feature all the latest technology.

It will also show sporting events on screens in ‘The Lounge’, there will be live entertainment and a 62-seater restaurant.

The G Casino brand is owned by Grosvenor Casinos, part of Rank Group.

casinoIan Turver, general manager of G Casino Sheffield, said: “We’re delighted to launch the UK’s tenth G Casino in Sheffield and look forward to introducing a new leisure venue to the city.

“The G brand is all about giving people a great alternative for a night out and the new Sheffield casino does just that.

“It differs from the Grosvenor Casino in that we’ll be putting as much emphasis on the non-gaming activities such as the live entertainment and the restaurant as we will the gaming.

“This means the new venue will appeal to many different types of people whether they’ve been to a casino before or not.”

The new casino will open on December 9.

Once the casino has relocated, Grosvenor Casinos, is looking to sub-let the old casino building in the adjacent premises.
