YORKSHIRE Water is to move 500 staff to a base in Leeds in what is believed to be the city's biggest letting deal so far this year.

The water operator has taken 55,000 sq ft of space at Livingstone House at Clarence Dock to house its newly created Asset Delivery Department.

The move comes despite a fall in revenues from business customers.

However Yorkshire Water said pre-tax profits for the half year to September 30 rose 6% to £116m.

Having dealt with Yorkshire Water for a number of years, I have always found them to be a very busy, even vibrant, organisation. Perhaps having such a large tenant within the Clarence Dock development will help remove the ghastly, 'tumbleweed' feel that the place has at he moment! It desperately needs some life injecting into it. Bearing this in mind, I assume that YW have been able to secure a good deal on their tenancy.

More unfettered spending by a private monopoly granted a licence to print money by increasing charges to customers with no other choice. It is now time for this industry to be brought back into public ownership.
