Steven Bonfield, Neil Wilson of Chadwick Lawrence, and Gareth Davis of KSDL.

Chadwick Lawrence has been announced as official legal partners for The HD One development, a leisure scheme set to take place at the John Smith’s Stadium in Huddersfield.

As official legal partners, Chadwick Lawrence will be the lead law firm on the project, helping to oversee the progression of the development and ensuring all legal requirements are in place prior to opening.

The firm will also assist with ongoing day to day legal advice and legal support across all aspects of the project.

The HD One development is an upcoming leisure development set to break ground in 2017. It includes more than 250,000 sq ft of leisure, sport, dining, retail and entertainment space, and a four star hotel and outdoor ski slope on the riverside surrounding the Stadium.

The project will be overseen by Steven Bonfield, partner of the company and commercial department of Chadwick Lawrence, who will take the role of legal project manager.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Chadwick Lawrence to show what we can do on the big stage,” said Bonfield.

Law firm Bond Dickinson has been appointed to Tier 1 of the new Crown Commercial Services (CCS) panel for general advisory work for all central government bodies.

Bond Dickinson will support CCS and the Government Legal Department (GLD) by providing full-service legal expertise across a range of disciplines to central government, their executive agencies and non-departmental public bodies.

Nick Barwood, lead partner and board member at Bond Dickinson said: “We are delighted to have been appointed by CCS and the GLD to this prestigious panel. This not only embeds our current relationship with CCS, but also places us in a stronger position, being one of only 12 firms appointed for the Tier 1 preferred positions, to be able to extend our central government work. It has been a firm-wide effort to secure this appointment and is testament to a lot of hard work across many of our teams and offices as well as a demonstration of our significant expertise in the public sector.”

Sheffield conveyancing firm PM Property Lawyers has launched a scheme to train the property lawyers of the future.

The ‘PM Passport’ is an innovative programme that means entry-level apprentices can progress their careers and start on the path to becoming senior property lawyers.

PMPL’s property lawyers are specialists in the conveyancing process for home sales and purchases and need extensive knowledge of property law, practice and procedure.

Trainees have their own PM Passport to carry with them throughout their time at PMPL, with certificates and stamps for every level they pass.

Managing director Harvey Harding said: “It’s so important that our team can see a clear path for progression and that they know where their career can take them. The programme is flexible so they simply choose to go as far as they want. And it really benefits Sheffield homebuyers and sellers too, since the training means their property lawyer will always be up to speed with the latest developments and on the ball with new legislation.”

Law firm Walker Morris is part of a consortium which has won a tender appointment as a Tier 1 adviser to the new Central Government General Legal Services Panel, worth £400m.

Dentons is the lead adviser of the consortium which includes three sub-contractor firms – Walker Morris, Bircham Dyson Bell and Kennedys.

The national tender was part of a bold move by the Government to consolidate and reduce its previous panels from almost 50 firms to 12 Tier 1 firms and six Tier 2 firms.

David Kilduff, head of the energy, infrastructure and Government group at Walker Morris, who worked on the initiative with Chris Woodthorpe, partner real estate, said: “Her Majesty’s Government set out a new approach to the delivery of its legal services through building effective relationships with a limited range of high quality providers with the intention of driving efficiencies and improving service delivery.

“We are delighted to be part of a successful consortium which recognises our strength and depth across a wide range of specialist legal expertise, including a successful history of working in and with the public sector.  A national firm based in the North, we are particularly well placed to support Government initiatives and requirements that are focused in the North including the New Industrial Strategy.”
