There are just days to go until the 2017 Business Masters Awards!

Hundreds of Yorkshire’s business people will head to The Queens Hotel in Leeds on Thursday 30 March for the black-tie bash.

A record number of entries were whittled down by a judging panel with 37 companies making the shortlist.

LARGE BUSINESS

Harrison Spinks

Luxury bed and mattress manufacturing company Harrison Spinks is based in Leeds and employs 615 staff.

Established in 1840, the company is fast becoming one of Yorkshire’s largest manufacturers. As one of Great Britain’s most established and innovative bed makers, the fifth-generation family business has continued to contribute to the local economy through its ongoing growth, job creation and innovation.

Karro Food Group

Karro is a leading producer of bacon, gammon, fresh pork, frozen sausage, ham and cooked meats and supplies to retail, foodservice and manufacturing customers across the UK, China and the US.

The company’s headquarters are located in Malton, North Yorkshire, with the business employing around 3,000 staff across its national food production locations.

Premier Technical Services Group

Supplying specialist services to the construction and facilities management industry, PTSG has grown quickly and organically since it launched in 2007 and now boasts a 450-strong team operating from 16 UK-wide locations.

In 2015, PTSG was listed on the London Stock Exchange and now has 15,000 customers and cares for more than 150,000 buildings worldwide.

Sky Betting and Gaming

Leeds-based Sky Betting & Gaming’s rapid expansion led it to make an £11m investment in people and facilities last year.

In April 2016, the business was creating jobs at its fastest ever rate, hiring 734 people in just one financial year, including 300 technologists.

Research Sky Betting & Gaming commissioned by Oxford Economics revealed it provided one in every 100 digital jobs in Leeds in 2014/15.

Thebigword

thebigword is one of the world’s leading language service providers. Headquartered in Leeds, it has 11 offices around the world, employs 600 staff and has more than 12,500 linguists.

Clarion
In 2016 law firm Clarion had a record year and saw high-profile client wins including from Hesco, Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Weston Communications.
It has seen staff numbers increase by 10% to 133 people including 21 partners and last year took on an additional floor at its Elizabeth House head office in Leeds.

Shulmans
Shulmans has reported double digit growth for the sixth year in a row and attracted work from a wealth of new clients, including working with AIM-listed 21st Century Technology, bus and coach manufacturers Optare and online betting giant Betfred.
Started in 1981 by Jeremy Shulman, the business has increased from one employee to nearly 200.

Squire Patton Boggs
Squire Patton Boggs cemented a successful period with its move to new premises at 6 Wellington Place in April 2016.
With a history of over 130 years in Yorkshire, the firm has an enduring local profile for the calibre of work it undertakes nationally. The office has 31 partners, 77 lawyers and a total staff of 238.

Wilson Field
Wilson Field is a Sheffield-headquartered firm of insolvency practitioners and specialist consultants dealing with all aspects of business recovery, corporate and individual insolvency and financial solutions.

In addition to its Sheffield head office, the firm has regional offices in West Yorkshire, the North East, West Midlands, London and South Wales.
Workplace Pensions Direct

Workplace Pensions Direct was established to plug a gap in the business advice market, as small businesses seek to comply with auto enrolment (AE) regulations under the Pensions Act 2008. WPD has helped almost 900 small businesses meet their duties and looks set to support over 3,000 small businesses by the end of 2017.

Charlton Morris

Charlton Morris provides executive search services to clients in the energy, life science and medical device sectors.

In 2016, it placed candidates from Indonesia to Italy, Mexico to Mozambique, and opened its first international office in Copenhagen in 2016 to better serve clients in Scandinavia and Eastern Europe.

Christeyns UK

Christeyns is one of Bradford’s oldest manufacturing companies, formerly known as “Oils and Soaps” and originally founded in 1874.

Today it has a total workforce of 130. It has very low employee turnover and average service time is 9.5 years.

Sky Betting & Gaming

In 2016, Sky Betting and Gaming became the first ever betting and gaming company to be recognised in the Sunday Times’ Best 100 Companies to Work for list.

The Leeds company, which employs 1200 staff, has an open ethos, with weekly ‘Roulette Wheel’ catch-ups that give everyone a chance to hear from and put questions to the leadership team.

Vital Technology Group

Vital Technology Group is based in Wetherby and was established in 2008.
The business has been growing steadily at around 25% year-on- year and currently employs 21 members of staff but expects to add a further five to seven people in the coming financial year.

The Right Fuelcard Company

The Right Fuelcard Company, based in Leeds, was established in May 2011 by a team who are part of the Bayford Group.
The company is an independent distributor of Shell, Esso, Keyfuels and UK Fuels fuelcards.

The 49-strong business was ranked 33rd in the Sunday Times 100 Best Small Companies to work for 2016 list.
