A six-figure investment is set to help a West Yorkshire motorcycle retailer boost turnover by 30% and create five jobs as it relocates to larger premises.

Jem Speed Shop in Batley launched in 2011 and is now expanding by occupying the neighbouring unit at Brookroyd Mill located on Bradford Road.

With financial support from HSBC, Jem Speed Shop will be carrying out a full refurbishment to both its units and buying additional stock to become Yorkshire’s largest motorcycle shop.

Customers will also be able to take advantage of a new American-style bike café along with a unique biker’s village creating a regular visitor attraction.

Andrew Bennett, HSBC’s area director of West and South Yorkshire, said: “HSBC is committed to supporting the growth of local businesses in West Yorkshire and beyond, and we are pleased to be backing Jem Speed Shop with our funding package. This is an exciting stage of the businesses’ development as the team look to enhance their current location and realise their ambitious growth strategy to become Yorkshire’s largest motorcycle supplier.”

Dave Megson, director at Jem Speed Shop, said: “We specialise in motorcycles and have an extensive range of second hand bikes. HSBC’s support has been vital in enabling our business to grow. Aside from simply providing more space for our showroom, the expansion will also enable us to have a more visible presence in the area with a brand new American style café, and a biker’s village, providing shops for all the family.”
