CEO hired at listed healthtech firm

Andy Thorburn has been hired for the chief executive role at healthtech business EMIS Group.

He will join from 1 May 2017 following the announcement in December 2016 by current CEO Chris Spencer that he would be retiring this year.

Thorburn has recently returned to the UK after four years working for mobile network provider Digicel. There he was group chief operating officer of the Caribbean and South Pacific.

Thorburn was responsible for driving significant growth in revenues and profitability, both organically and via M&A. He was previously CEO of Digicel Caribbean and Central America and CEO of Digicel Jamaica.

Prior to Digicel, Thorburn (pictured right) had 16 years’ experience in the software industry. He held management roles at INTEC Plc, Chronicle Solutions Ltd and a number of Benchmark Capital Portfolio companies (including Kalido Inc and Orchestria Ltd). He was also a managing director within BT Group.

Chris Spencer joined the group in 1999, serving as the group’s chief administrative officer, group counsel and company secretary prior to being appointed chief executive.

Mike O’Leary, chairman of EMIS Group, said: “We are delighted to announce the appointment of Andy Thorburn following an extensive search process for Chris’s replacement. Andy is a proven and outstanding business leader with an excellent track record in the software and IT sectors.

“The Board is looking forward to working with Andy, at what is an exciting time in the Group’s development, and helping him to strengthen further our position as the UK leader in connected healthcare software and services.

“Chris has given outstanding service to EMIS Group for over seventeen years, including as chief executive since 2013, and we wish him a long and healthy retirement.”
