People: Director promotion at accountancy firm; Knight Frank boosts team with new chartered surveyors; and more

Garbutt + Elliott new director Laura Masheder, with managing partner, Russell Turner

Accountancy firm Garbutt + Elliott has promoted Laura Masheder to a director role.

Masheder, a specialist in the charities and not-for-profit accountancy sector, joined the firm’s York office in 2003 as a trainee.

During her time at the practice she also received the Diploma in Charity Accounting, recognising her expertise in the sector.

In her new role, Masheder will use her experience gained from working closely with charities to further expand the firm’s offering together with partners Alan Sidebottom and Nigel Shaw.

Russell Turner, managing partner of Garbutt + Elliott, said: “Laura is passionate about working with charities and delivering excellent service. She has contributed greatly to Garbutt + Elliott’s growth in this sector and I’m delighted that we are now recognised as charity specialists within the region.”

James Green

The commercial property team at the Yorkshire offices of Knight Frank has been boosted with the qualification of two chartered surveyors.

The Yorkshire office, which is split between Leeds and Sheffield, has seen James Green and William Turnbull graduate as chartered surveyors to work with the team.

Turnbull will be based at the Sheffield office, working alongside partner Peter Whiteley as office head, while Green operates out of the Leeds office, under the leadership of partner and head of the Yorkshire team, Henrie Westlake.

Whiteley said: “The team we have built to cover the Yorkshire commercial region will benefit from William and James’ qualifications as chartered surveyors, which will allow them to share more of the workload and to build their knowledge of the regional market.”

Dean Evans

Leeds-headquartered workspace interiors specialist Southerns Group has appointed Dean Evans as group head of strategic internal projects, working closely with the firm’s senior management team.

Evans graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University with a BSc (Hons) in project management and brings to the role a wealth of experience gained from a variety of positions with NHS England, Npower and West North West Homes.   He worked for the Southerns Group as operations manager some years ago.

His new role involves business development, supply-chain management, governance and process development, as well as heading the group’s ISO accreditation work planned for later this year.

“We’re delighted to welcome back such an experienced project management professional to the Southerns team, on the back of a period of real growth for the firm, and a very strong year overall for the companies within the group,” said CEO Andrew Kendall-Jones.  “As we continue to expand, Dean’s expertise in driving and delivering transformational strategic and operational projects from an internal perspective will be key.”

Southerns is a £45m group made up of six businesses, employing 250 staff in Leeds, Bolton, Macclesfield, Manchester and London.  It has seen an increase in turnover increase from £9m to £45m in two years – a four-fold increase – and it is expected that within 18 months that turnover will reach £150m.
