Major stake in growing engineering firm acquired by President veterans

Two veterans of the engineering sector who helped build Sheffield’s President Engineering Group have acquired a major stake in a BG Engineering, a Chesterfield-based business.

Cooper Brown Enterprises, Marie Cooper and Chris Brown’s investment vehicle, has acquired a 45% stake in BG Engineering as its first targeted acquisition.

Cooper and Brown exited from President in October 2016 having been finance director and manufacturing manager. President was sold to Parker Hannifin in 2015.

Following their successful exit from President the pair launched a search for businesses they could invest in and advise with their considerable experience, with the aim of growing the company’s revenues and profits.

Founded in 1988 BG Engineering is a precision subcontractor specialising in computer machined engineering . The company manufactures OEM parts mainly to the gas valve sector, as well as the food and beverage, high pressure cylinders and utilities industries.

Antony Homes, founder of the company retains a significant shareholding as part of the deal, and remains as managing director.

Kevan Shaw, director of Sheffield-based dealmakers Castle Square Corporate Finance advised on the deal, with legal advice provided by Paul Trudgill, partner at hlw Keeble Hawson.
