People: Double partner hire for law firm; Director appointment for NG Bailey; and more

Law firm Bevan Brittan has appointed twopartners to its growing housing practice.

Neil Brand and John Cox have both joined the firm from Clarke Willmott where they were partner and senior associate respectively. Brand is based in Bevan Brittan’s London office and Cox in Leeds.

Both have a focus on housing management – assisting housing associations, private housing companies and local authorities with the management of their stock – and their appointments to Bevan Brittan means that the firm now has housing management partners in its offices in Leeds, London and Bristol.

Cox has specialised in housing for most of his career. He was at Clarke Willmott for nearly three years, prior to which he worked at Walker Morris. He also worked in local government for ten years. Areas of specialism include contentious housing matters, advising landlords on such issues as breach of covenants, nuisance, possession and subletting.

Brand is a long-established housing specialist. He was at Clarke Willmott for three years, prior to which he worked at Devonshires Solicitors. He specialises in leasehold matters and commonly works with social housing landlords, arm’s length management organisations, Registered Providers, and others.

Bevan Brittan’s head of housing, Jonathan Turner, said: “We are very pleased to have brought Neil and John on board. Giving us a ‘triangle’ of housing management partners, their arrival has boosted our housing management offering and given it national coverage. Along with their colleagues in the wider Housing practice, we are focused on growing a long-term sustainable team with increased capacity to help us service a growing client list.”

Peter Jones is to join NG Bailey as managing director of the IT Services division this month, following the announcement that current managing director Bob Dunnett will retire at the end of May.
Jones will report to NG Bailey’s chief executive David Hurcomb and lead the division which specialises in the design, supply, installation, management and maintenance of voice, data and structured cabling solutions to contracting, enterprise and public sector clients.

Hurcomb said: “Bob has done a great job and we wish him a long and happy retirement. He leaves us with a strong client base and an ever-expanding pipeline of new business opportunities. I now look forward to working closely with Peter to continue the development of the division, as well as actively pursuing opportunities to accelerate the growth of all of our services businesses.
