Planning has been secured for a multi-million pound mixed leisure and residential scheme that is set to provide a major economic boost for Scarborough.

Designed by Wakefield architects The Harris Partnership for developer Benchmark Leisure, the North Bay scheme proposes 24 one, two and three bed apartments with A3 units below, a multi-storey car park and restaurants anchored by a £14m, seven-screen cinema which will be run by national operator The Light Cinemas.

Construction is due to start on the cinema element in September to be ready to open for the 2018 summer season.

Work on the remaining leisure-residential elements will then follow, confirming The North Bay scheme as a “major leisure hub for the region,” the developer said.
