East Yorkshire social enterprise Enviromail, which diverts hundreds of tonnes of waste from landfill every week, has acquired new premises with the help of bank funding.

Enviromail is a rapidly expanding not for profit organisation established in 2007. The business specialises in commercial recycling services working with the emerging renewables sector and supporting over 400 businesses across the North bank region of the Humber.

It processes paper, cardboard, plastic and glass and the funding from Barclays has enabled it to purchase premises at Studley Street, Hull.

Peter Lemon, director, Enviromail, said: “When we started out in 2007 we aimed to be sustainable and operate in a way that we can employ local people who may have struggled gaining employment – training them with the aim to providing secure employment for these individuals in the future.

“We very quickly outgrew our rented premises and so it’s been fantastic that we’ve been able to work with Barclays to purchase our own headquarters securing the future of the business and taking us to the next phase of our growth plans. We now have more space for expansion and a purpose built training centre, providing us with the facilities to support disadvantaged adults across the region.”

Enviromail employs ten people at the new site and an additional two apprentices. Turnover for the current year is expected to exceed £500,000.

Mark Flanagan of Platinum Money worked with Matthew Heaton, Barclays business development manager and Michael Anderson, Barclays business manager, to put together the funding package for the deal.

They said: “It’s great to be able to support a social enterprise which operates in such an environmentally friendly way and also supports vulnerable people in the local community. The new funding will secure the future of the organisation and provide the foundations for their expansion plans.”
