100 year-old automotive firm goes into administration

A nearly 100 year-old automotive business, Alex E Carr, has gone into administration with the loss of all its staff.

A downturn in sales rendered the business unviable, said administrators Keith Marshall and Gareth Harris of RSM Restructuring Advisory, were appointed as joint administrators of Alex E Carr on 18 May 2017.

Several of its directors had resigned prior to this, at the end of February.

The Hull-based company was established at the end of the First World War, in 1918.

It specialised in a performance engineering, engine modification and tuning firm working within the automotive sector. It has been supporting local garages and retail outlets since 1981.

All seven employees were made redundant and their claims are being dealt with by the Redundancy Payments Service.

A director, peter Shepherd, launched a new company in May, incorporated as Genesis Engines.
