Tech incubator makes £1m investment in 3D printing entrepreneur

A York entrepreneur has launched a 3D printing company with the help of incubator and manufacturer Stage One.

Stage One, a creative manufacturing firm which collaborates and helps grow smaller businesses, has helped Fluxaxis to develop its 3D printing capabilities, investing £1m in the business.

Fluxaxis creates scalable 3D printing solutions, and is growing its digital manufacturing capabilities in 3D scanning, CNC machining and 3D design.

Stage One chief financial officer Michael Harrison shares directorship of Fluxaxis, which being headed by Edwin Stokes.

Stokes said: “Designers, marketers, architects, manufacturers, retailers, film and theatre companies. Everyone is exploring how 3D print can enrich their productions. By removing technical barriers we are enabling a new creative and fast-track approach, uninhibited by scale and intricacy.”

“The best machines mean nothing if you don’t know what to do with them,” he said. “We combine the technology of the future with Stage One’s experience in creative production to open up new opportunities for businesses both in the UK and globally.

“Prototypes and production parts that, until now, have been too complex in form to manufacture, can now be made quickly and precisely using a range of cutting edge equipment, all under one roof.”

Stage One has worked with Zaha Hadid, Thomas Heatherwick and RSH+P, and has helped the construction of each of the Serpentine pavilions since 2009. It employs 160 from its base in York.
