Defence and international development contract wins worth £50m

Paul Hamer, chief executive at WYG

Project management giant WYG has secured three contracts that it expects to be worth £50m over the next three years.

The Leeds-headquartered consultancy has been awarded framework contracts with Crown Commercial Services and part of the Ministry of Defence (MoD). It has also won a contract in southern Africa with a major donor funded programme, Climate Resilient Infrastructure Facility.

Paul Hamer, WYG’s chief executive officer, said: “These contract wins are testament to the range and quality of our technical expertise both in consultancy services across the UK and in our international development business. They build our strong track record in delivering major long term infrastructure projects for the UK government and its major agencies.”

The framework agreement with the UK Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), which is part of the MoD, builds on an existing agreement. The amended agreement is initially for one year, and can be extended to up to three years, and WYG believes it could double its existing £12m annual revenues.

The Crown Commercial Services framework agreement is worth up to £3m a year, and is for two years with further extensions possible.

Hamer added: “In a highly competitive environment, the award of two out of three of the regions under DIO’s Principal Support Provider Regional Commissioning Model – covering all of England and Wales – is particularly pleasing and confirmation that during our work for the MoD over the past 25 years we have continually refreshed our approach to help the MoD to deliver its operational capability.”

WYG’s work in southern Africa will help to improve the “sustainable, equitable use of Southern Africa’s transboundary water resources”. It will be part of projects to mitigate climate extremes, which will be worth up to £5m over the next two years and “with the likelihood that this will expand significantly”, it said.
