Former Deputy Prime Minister loses in Sheffield Hallam

Former Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has lost in Sheffield Hallam, in what looks to be a tough night for the Liberal Democrats.

He was beaten by Jared O’Mara, who ends a 20-year hold on the constituency by the Liberal Democrats and becomes the first Labour MP for the constituency in 132 years.

Fellow Liberal Democrat Greg Mulholland, who entered Parliament alongside Clegg in 2005, has lost Leeds North West, which has been won by Labour’s Alex Sobel.

However Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron did manage to retain his seat and former business secretary Vince Cable was returned in Twickenham, having lost in 2015.
