People: Law firm adds to corporate team with Gordons hire; Deloitte deal advisory team gets new head; Commercial litigator joins Legatus Law; and more

Amanda Hughes

The Leeds office of law firm Mills & Reeve has appointed Amanda Hughes to its corporate team.

Hughes has joined as an associate from the Leeds office of Gordons where she was a solicitor. She will advise on the full range of corporate transactions including mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, disposals and re-structuring.

Partner Paul Johnson, who leads the corporate team in Leeds, said: “It is an extremely busy time for the corporate team and we have a very healthy deal flow with a number of completions due over the coming weeks. I’m delighted to welcome Amanda who will be a great addition to our growing team.”

The debt advisory team at Deloitte is getting a new regional lead in the form of Anil Gupta.

Gupta will take over the team in October 2017, after joiningDeloitte’s corporate finance advisory team in 2005.

Hetakes over from Nigel Birkett who has will leave the firm in October 2017, after 22 years at Deloitte, including 12 years in debt advisory and 6 years as a partner, to pursure new challenges.

Fenton Burgin, head of UK Debt Advisory at Deloitte commented: “We are delighted that Anil will be leading the regional team and thank Nigel for ten years of work in that role. Our regional debt advisory business is an integral part of our UK offering, widely recognised as one of the largest teams in the country.”

Deloitte’s debt advisory team comprises of 180 debt professionals based in 30 countries including Europe, North America, Africa and Asia.

Laura Turner

Laura Turner, a commercial litigator, has joined Legatus Law.

Having previously held positions at DWF and Genus Law, Turner will use the skills she has developed over recent years to add further capacity to the firm, which has offices in Leeds and London.

Founding director of Legatus Law, Rashmi Dubé, said: “Laura’s appointment as a commercial litigation solicitor shows our commitment to growing the experience and expertise we have within the firm to support existing and new clients.”

Andy Barradell

Lindum has appointed Andy Barradell as a director of Lindum Construction, which follows the recent announcement of James Nellist as director for the company’s York division.

With a background in house building, Barradell joined Lindum in 2000 as a scheduler in the estimating and buying team. In 2004 he moved to the role of design coordinator within the construction division where he has remained and is now Lindum’s affordable housing manager and manages the design co-ordinator team with responsibility for leading the implementation of modern methods of construction and renewable technology across the group.

Lindum Group chairman David Chambers said: “Andy’s appointment as director is in recognition of the contribution, dedication and ability he has shown throughout the 17 years he has been a part of the Lindum team and for the responsibility he now has.
