SME Spotlight: Crowdfunding campaign launched for female-friendly magazine

A Sheffield entrepreneur has started a crowdfunding campaign to expand her digital magazine aimed at businesswomen, Womanthology.

Fiona Tatton is the founder and editor-in-chief of Womanthology, and has launched a £20,000 Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to fund her project.

Tatton was previously a marketing manager at Yorkshire Forward, the University of Sheffield and regional manager of the Law Society.

She set up her venture from her kitchen table in Sheffield, as an alternative to glossy magazines filled with consumer goods.

She said: “I remember thinking I was never going to look like the women on the magazine covers, nor did I have £2,000 spare to buy the ‘must have’ raincoat or the ‘you can’t live without’ coffee table.

“I was in a relatively well-paid job and was doing well in my career but it wasn’t enough for them. I felt the media benchmarked impossible lifestyle standards, and imposed these on women in particular.

“So, I decided to set up Womanthology to connect women from all over the world, of all ages so they could share wisdom and find their passion and purpose. They choose to define themselves and ‘success’ on their own terms.

“They want to make their mark on the world by doing what they love – professional passion and purpose. They also want to share their stories in their own words to tell other women that it’s OK to be yourself.”
