10 things for the kids to do this summer in Yorkshire

There is no need for the kids to complain that they are bored over the summer holidays, here is what they can get up to on their doorstep over the six weeks.

Family ‘Zine Workshops
Head to Aire Place Studios in Leeds for their Family ‘Zine Workshops. Each Friday, the venue is inviting kids to make their own ‘zine pages as part of a four-week project. They can write all about their favourite things, share their most loved recipes and tell stories. Snacks and drinks are also available. Find out more here.

The Gruffalo
The classic story of The Gruffalo is taking to the stage at West Yorkshire Playhouse this summer. The musical adaptation of the book by Julia Donaldson follows the mouse on a daring adventure through the woods. The mouse meets the fox, owl and snake, but will the story of The Gruffalo save the mouse from ending up as dinner? Find out more here.

Pirates, Pants & Wellyphants
Nick Sharratt, the man behind the illustrations for Jacqueline Wilson’s books, is now the subject of a hands-on exhibition at Nunnington Hall. The exhibition explores Nick’s passion for drawing from childhood to present day and the show also features many of the characters that Nick has illustrated, including Tracy Beaker. Dangerous Arts
The Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds will be hosts to Dangerous Arts this summer. The venue will bring history to life with combat demonstrations, dramatic performances and sessions where kids can get involved. There will also be museum tours taking place. Find out more here.

Theatre summer school
DGP Youth Group at Lantern Theatre in Sheffield are opening their doors to young people between the ages of 11 and 16 this summer. The group is Shakespeare based and aims to develop young people’s love of theatre by teaching them the ropes of lighting, sound, costume and sets as well as acting. The Summer Adventure
Head along to Stockeld Park this summer for their adventure event. There will be an enchanted forest with themed play areas, animated sculptures and a maze with interactive installations. There will also be roller-skating, scooters and go-karts to have a go at. Find out more here.

Film House on the Square
Millennium Square in Leeds will be hosts to a wide selection of great family films this summer, including The Lion King, Hairspray and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Each film event will also have face painting and craft making to get involved with. Find out more here.

Summer Dance Dayz
Nycha Dance Creations in Sheffield are offering fun filled dance, games and arts and crafts for kids aged between five and 12 to enjoy this summer. They will have the chance to learn how to street dance, as well as have a go at contemporary, dance theatre and much more. Find out more here.

The Tiger Who Came For Tea
Based on the book by Judith Kerr, the musical adaptation follow’s the story of a tea-guzzling tiger who joins Sophie and her mum for tea. The show is jam packed full of sing-a-long songs, chaos and lots of magic. Many surprises are also expected to make an appearance. Find out more here.

PAW Patrol Live
PAW Patrol Live is coming to the First Direct Arena in Leeds in August. Based on the hugely successful Nickelodeon TV series, everybody’s favourite pups will bring an action-packed musical adventure to the stage for the first time. Find out more here.
