£7.5m awarded for upgrade to major route in Hull

Funding of £7.5m has been allocated to improve a major transport route in Hull.

Confirmed by the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), the cash and will support the development  of an integrated transport scheme for Stoneferry Road that will aim to improve access to several Humber Enterprise Zone sites, improve journey times and journey time reliability, provide better facilities for pedestrians and cyclists, and address congestion hot spots that impact the Stoneferry Road corridor.

The corridor work will support the A63 and Garrison Road roundabout improvements that Highways England is planning to deliver over the next few years by addressing congestion levels.

Hull City Council is developing a business case for the funding which will be submitted to the LEP for final approval later this year.

Lord Haskins, chair of the Humber LEP, said: “The Humber is experiencing significant economic growth and we want to make sure that can continue. By addressing bottlenecks and improving access to Enterprise Zone sites we can ensure that the region remains an attractive place for businesses to grow and invest. The Stoneferry Road corridor improvement will be an important addition to the programme of transport and infrastructure projects we are supporting across the Humber.”

Cllr Martin Mancey, portfolio holder for economic regeneration, investment and planning at Hull City Council, said: “We are absolutely delighted that the Humber LEP has allocated £7.5m to improve one of the most significant transport routes in the city.

“The Stoneferry corridor is a very busy and important route for both commercial and commuter traffic and these plans will not only reduce journey times but increase opportunities for growth, prosperity and investment in the area.

“Transport connectivity is crucial for our city’s economic growth and it is vitally important that we continue to improve our local transport infrastructure to keep up with the momentum.”
