Danish electrical group launches first UK base

Danish company Scanel International A/S has chosen Hull for its first permanent UK office.

Scanel, which supplies electrical systems to the marine, offshore wind and oil & gas industries, has won major contract wins with energy giants based in the Humber region. It is currently working on four projects on behalf of Dong and Siemens.

One member of staff will be based at its One Business Village offices on Hedon Road, with plans to add more once more UK contracts are secured.

Ove Bolander Johansen, International Key Account Manager – Wind at Scanel International A/S, commented: “We tested the water with a satellite office in Billingham, but found Hull to be the perfect location for our first fixed base, as it is right on the Humber, at the heart of the UK’s emerging offshore wind sector.

“It’s also equidistant to Lowestoft and the wind farms off the east coast, and Newcastle and Scotland. We’re also carrying out work at Hornsea Project One, which is a large project for us, so it’s great to be so close.”

Tim Rix, chairman of the Green Port Growth Programme, commented: “The offshore wind market has been established in Denmark for some time, so companies like Scanel International have expertise that can support our local supply chain and the developing UK wind industry.

“Scanel International has secured contracts to work on pre-assembly sites here, and sees the potential to grow its business in the UK, and we are delighted they’ve chosen Hull as a location for its first permanent base in the UK.”

Leader of Hull City Council, councillor Stephen Brady, said: “I am delighted that Scanel has chosen Hull as its UK base, and it is testament to the fantastic work that has taken place by Green Port Hull.

“It is another vote of confidence in Hull and the Humber as we continue our ambition to be a world-class centre for renewable energy.”
