Sweet deal for Haribo with expansion

Haribo is extending its Pontefract site with a £150,000 investment.

The confectionery company is extending its retail outlet on Front Street with a renovated store, tripling the size of the existing shop.

Upon completion it will be 1,022 sq ft, and offer a range of treats including those made within the UK and a selection of exclusive products imported from HARIBO factories across the world.

Over the past several years, Haribo’s focus has been on the development of its £92m Castleford sister factory, creating several hundred jobs.

Turnover for Dunhills (Pontefract), which was acquired by Haribo in 1994 to bolster its UK presence, rose to £165.4m for the year to 31 December 2016.

Gavin Jones, store manager commented: “The HARIBO shop is a very popular destination for local people and is often a stop off for visitors to the region.

“Through our investment we will be improving the look and feel of the site, both internally and externally, whilst also extending the space so that we can increase the range of products on offer. Excitingly, we will also be extending our hours of opening to include Saturday trading.”

The new store is scheduled to open on Saturday 19 August. Allowing the renovation to take place, the current store is currently closed.
