People: Renew welcomes group finance director; Ambassador appointment at Yorkshire Society; and more

Renew, the engineering services group, has welcomed Sean Wyndham-Quin as group finance director.

He will be appointed to the board on November 8.

Wyndham-Quin is currently a partner at SPARK Advisory Partners, a business he co-founded in early 2012. Prior to that he worked for Brewin Dolphin and EY where he qualified as a chartered accountant.

He has been a close advisor to Renew over the past eight years, a period during which the group has experienced substantial growth.

Renew’s chairman, Roy Harrison, said: “Sean is well known to Renew and we are delighted to welcome him to the Board. Having seen his work first hand, we believe that he brings complementary skills and experience to the team which will support our growth strategy and we look forward to working with him.”

The Yorkshire Society has appointed Adeem Younis, chairman of Wakefield-based humanitarian charity Penny Appeal, as an ambassador to represent the Asian community.

The Yorkshire Society formed as a non-political, not for profit organization in 1980 and encourages businesses, charities and individuals in Yorkshire to join together in promoting the county.

Society chairman Keith Madeley, said: “We are thrilled that Adeem has accepted the post of ambassador. We have a growing community of Asian businesses and entrepreneurs here in Yorkshire and I cannot think of a more perfect person to represent us.”

Younis added: “The British Asian community has always been very important to me personally as well as professionally. I am honoured and flattered to have been asked to represent the British Asian community in Yorkshire to further inclusivity and increase community cohesion.”

After opening in June, The Rise in York has welcomed bars manager Alexandra Chlistalla, jwho joins from the iconic 5-star hotel, Shangri-La at The Shard in London.

She began her hospitality career in Munich, Germany undertaking a three-and-a-half-year internship with Marriot.

Darren Noyland joins The Rise as restaurant manager with 23 years experience spanning across restaurants such as Smoke, Las Iguanas, and Brewhouse & Kitchen.

The Grand Hotel & Spa, York is currently undertaking a £15m re-development, with The Rise at the heart of its plans. The expansion project will also see the addition of 101 bedrooms when a new accommodation wing opens later this year.  When complete, the development will double the number of five-star rooms in York, from 107 to 208, generating an additional £1.7m of annual visitor expenditure for the local economy.
