Window manufacturers take on 65,000 sq ft factory

Double glazing specialists Safestyle UK have taken over a 65,000 sq ft factory extension by Harris.

Wakefield developers Harris have handed over the £4.5m site extension on Valley Road in Barnsley.

Harris were involved in the design and build of the plant extension to allow Safestyle to consolidate its manufacturing operations and add office space.

The factory has been equipped with a new glass toughening furnace, a fully automated glazing line and a high-speed cutting table.

Danny Mulqueen from Harris said: “This build has further enhanced our growing track record for the construction of production facilities within live working environments.

“We were able to add real value to the project by recommending a specific type of external cladding so we could use double size Kingspan panels, that were quick to install with a tower crane, and saved six weeks against the original construction programme.

“We also assumed responsibility, on behalf of Safestyle UK, for organising utilities connections and associated way lease agreements with the local authority, which meant commissioning of the plant was achieved earlier than anticipated. All in all it’s been a very satisfying project to work on over the last eight months.”

Safestyle UK is part of the Style Group, one of the country’s leading manufacturers and installers of PVCu windows and doors.

£50m turnover Harris CM employs more than 50 people, and predominantly operates in the private sector delivering industrial, commercial, residential and retail schemes.
