Law firm’s charity calendar competition enters 23rd year

Law firm Walker Morris has been encouraging Yorkshire’s young budding artists to showcase their talents in its award-winning annual Children’s Charity Calendar Competition.

The judging for the competition, now in its 23rd year, has taken place and the winner and runners-up are due to be announced in September.

The judging panel comprised Yorkshire artist Ashley Jackson, Dean Poole from West Yorkshire Printing and David Smedley, chairman of the partners at Walker Morris.

From the artwork submitted, the judges selected 13 winners, including the coveted front page winner and 27 runners-up. The winners will receive a hamper of art materials and a £250 cheque for their school and the runners-up will also receive an art prize.

Earlier this year, Walker Morris was awarded the ‘Contributing to the Community Award’ at the TheBusinessDesk.com’s Masters Awards, recognising its long-standing investment in art in primary schools and recognition of its 23 year commitment to encouraging and supporting creativity and art in schools throughout our region.

Smedley said: “Every year we see a tremendous amount of artistic talent from the young artists in our region and this year has been no different. Our job as judges has again been very challenging! Once again we have been staggered by the high standard of the artwork and creative ability from the region’s primary schools.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank both the pupils and teachers for their continued support of the calendar competition and the fantastic effort that goes into creating the artwork we receive from the schools and the children.”

The annual competition, which is open to all primary school aged children in Yorkshire and Humber, requires the children to paint pictures that depict their favourite month of the year.

The winning entries will be used to create a charity calendar that will be sold in aid of Martin House Hospice.
