Work on new retail park begins on former factory site

The brownfield site once home to the R F Winder factory in Stanningley is being turned into a retail park.

Work has now started on the 52,000 sq ft site, which is anchored by a 28,000 sq ft new concept LOF Lidl food store. This has attracted Home Bargains (15,000 sq/ft) and Heron Frozen Foods (4,000 sq/ft) along with smaller units for Mencap, Card Factory, Greggs and Betfred.

Simon Williams of Williams Property Consultants said: “At long last it is great to see steelwork going up on this exciting new retail park. Lidl and PDR Construction have succeeded where others have failed. Only one of the proposed eight units remains available to let and that unit is only 850 sq ft so I would be surprised if this unit was not let before practical completion in January 2018.”

Paul Dransfield of PDR Construction adds “We have always believed in Leeds which is why we opened our offices in Stanningley over 10 years ago. Having watched Winder’s relocate and demolish their original factory it has been a target for us to be involved in redeveloping its replacement, as it’s only 100 yards from the office!”

“Having  working with Lidl for almost 20 years and built out 22 stores across the North of England including their new concept LOF store it’s fitting this site has been entrusted to PDR where we have been able to add value to the process and be a true partner to both Lidl and Belgrave “

A spokesperson for Belgrave Retail Park said: “This has been a long hard road not only for ourselves but for Lidl and the two professional teams, so it is particularly satisfying to see the light at the end of the tunnel and such great retailing names taking units on the park.

“PDR Construction are on budget and on time, DPP delivered not just 1 but 3 planning consents on the site and joint agents Williams Property Consultants and Rees Denton have let 98% of the scheme as the steel frame is erected. All that’s left is to sell the completed development and move on to other ventures in the north of England.”
