Call for businesses to take on pass the parcel charity challenge

The Lord Mayor of Leeds has thrown down the gauntlet to city centre businesses and challenged them to take part in a supersized game of pass the parcel.

On September 28, companies will have the chance to take part in a giant version of the kids’ party favourite, helping to raise cash for a local children’s charity.

Leeds Pass the Parcel will be run by graduates from Leeds City Council and is just one of a series of events taking place to support the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal throughout September.

Every penny raised through the events, run as part of Children’s Cancer Awareness Month, will go to the Lord Mayor of Leeds’ chosen charity for this year Candlelighters, a Leeds based organisation that supports families in Yorkshire facing childhood cancer.

The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Cllr Jane Dowson, said: “The charity Candlelighters is very close to my heart, so I’m delighted that this years’ graduates have put huge amounts of effort into coming up with an exciting and innovative fundraising event.

“I’m delighted to see that so many Leeds organisations are on board and supporting the cause and I’m proud to witness what is shaping up to be a city-wide collaborative approach to fundraising for such a wonderful charity like Candlelighters that do so much for families facing childhood cancer here in Leeds.”

Leeds-based organisations are invited to play the game by unwrapping one of its layers upon a visit to their office.

Prize donations for the event have been donated from a range of Leeds-based organisations including Leeds Grand Theatre and City Varieties, Trinity and White Rose Shopping Centres, Yorkshire Country Cricket Foundation and the First Direct Arena.
