5 things to do in Yorkshire this weekend

Yorfest 2017

Yorfest this Saturday is a one-day music festival held on the Knavesmire in York (next to the racecourse) where there will be four stages and over 30 acts.

A festival debut this summer is Jason Manfords Comedy Club, which will be housed in a bespoke seated marquee, with three two hour comedy shows throughout the day.

There will also be food and drink, local real ales, a champagne and Pimms Bar, a children’s play zone, face painting, and vintage fairground rides.

Apple Day at Newby Hall

Sunday sees Apple Day return to Newby Hall.

Central to Apple Day is the hotly contested Apple Throwing Championships whereby whoever throws an Apple the furthest over the River Ure wins the prestigious title.

There will also be orchard talks and apple pressing, and a Teddy Bears’ Picnic for the children.

Activities start at 10.30am.

Monty Python’s Spamalot

Lovingly ripped off from the hugely successful 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot is a comedy full of misfit knights, killer rabbits, dancing nuns and ferocious Frenchmen.

Winner of the 2005 Tony Award for Best New Musical Spamalot was written by Python legend Eric Idle, with a co-written by John DuPrez.

It is produced by the award winning Selladoor Productions – behind Footloose, American Idiot, Avenue Q and Little Shop of Horrors and Mercury Theatre Colchester.

Agatha Christie’s Go Back for Murder

Midland Players have returned to the University of Sheffield Drama Studio with ‘Go Back for Murder’, Agatha Christie’s stage adaptation of her novel ‘Five Little Pigs’.

The stage version sees Carla Crale with solicitor Justin Fogg (who takes the Poirot role from the novel) seeking the truth behind her mother’s conviction for the murder of her father 16 years earlier.
