Marshalls chairman announces move to SIG

Sheffield-based SIG  has appointed Andrew Allner as a non-executive director and chairman, in a move that will see him move from competitor Marshalls from 1 November.

Allner is currently chairman of listed company Marshalls, the manufacturer of hard landscaping products based in Huddersfield.

SIG, a distributor of specialist building products, announced earlier this year that Leslie Van de Walle had informed the Board of his intention to step down as chairman and retire as a director of the company once a successor had been identified and the new Group chief executive officer, Meinie Oldersma, was established in role.

Van de Walle will step down as chairman and retire as a director on 31 October.

Allner said: “I am delighted to be joining SIG.  It is a company with a long history, loyal employees, leading market positions, and significant potential.

“I look forward to working with Meinie and the Board to improve the performance of the business for the benefit of our customers, employees and shareholders.”

Van de Walle said: “I would like to welcome Andrew to SIG.  He brings with him a wealth of both listed company and building products sector experience to lead the Board through the next stage of the Company’s development and I know that I am leaving SIG in very good hands.”

Meinie Oldersma, Group CEO added: “On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Leslie for his service over the last seven years.  He has shown strong leadership and made a valuable contribution to the Group.  We extend him every good wish for the future. I would also like to welcome Andrew to SIG and look forward to working with him.”

Following Andrew’s appointment as non-executive director and chairman of SIG  and in line with Marshalls’ Board succession plans, a search will now commence for Allner’s successor.  Allner will step down as Chairman and retire from the Marshalls plc Board once a new Chairman has been appointed.
