Images of Leeds’ only Michelin-starred restaurant’s refurb revealed

Images of the new venue for Leeds’ only Michelin-starred restaurant have been unveiled.

It was announced in May that The Man Behind the Curtain, which was located on the third floor of the Coronation Buildings which is home to the Flannels department store, would be moving to the building’s basement.

Chef Michael O’Hare opened The Man Behind The Curtain in Leeds in April 2014 winning a Michelin star in 2015 which was retained in the latest edition of the elite guide.

Now, Absolute Commercial Interiors is celebrating the completion of the 12-week, £1.1m refurbishment for the restaurant which opened this week.

Phil Brown, owner, Absolute Commercial Interiors, says: “This is a stunning venue and one we are truly proud to have worked on. It wasn’t without it’s quirks! The floor of the basement wasn’t fit for purpose and certainly wouldn’t have held the spec of professional kitchen that Michael and his team of chefs require.

“The entire unit needed to be stripped out, fully fire boarded, screed to cover the whole floor and then we needed to bring in fresh air, do a full mechanical rework and create ducting throughout to support the kitchen and a new frontage. All of this was before we were able to bring Michael’s amazing vision to reality.”

Features include a bespoke hand laid Lapacida porcelain tiled floor imported from Italy and Italian book match marble. Plus, a full Charvet bespoke kitchen suite imported from France and intricate Stucco walls.

Brown added: “The restaurant needed to be as impressive as Michael and the food he creates and we are confident that we have risen to the challenge and created a real ‘wow’ venue for food lovers to enjoy.”
