Key Leeds City Centre site snapped up

Caddick Group has completed the purchase of the former Polestar Petty print works on Whitehall Road in Leeds.

The site comprises more than 150 000 sq ft of warehouse and office buildings on a six acre site.

Johnny Caddick said: “The Whitehall Road site is a natural extension to the exciting development activity currently taking place in this part of the City. The recent announcement of the GPU development at Wellington Place has added further significance to the location. The proximity of the Whitehall Road site to the station and City Centre make it an exciting opportunity to create a great place to live and work.

“Our intentions are to refurbish a number of the buildings for industrial and trade uses in the short term, whilst we assess the site’s redevelopment potential in use, scale and massing terms.”

The history of the site spans almost 150 years, starting in 1865 when Petty & Sons family printing company first opened its doors. In 1981 it was acquired by Robert Maxwell, who used it for his British Printing and Communications Corporation. The site subsequently changed hands a number of times before finally shutting for good in December 2014.

Caddick bought the site in conjunction with property firm BET Leeds group.
The Leeds Offices of Gent Visick and Colliers International are advising Caddick and BET on the refurbishment proposals.
