Remembrance Sunday services across the region

The Lord Mayor of Leeds Councillor Jane Dowson will lead the tributes on Remembrance Sunday for service men and women who have lost their lives in times of conflict.

Held on Sunday 12 November, the people of Leeds are invited to join the Lord Mayor as she lays a wreath at the war memorial on Victoria Gardens.

A procession will leave Leeds Civic Hall at 10.50am and finish at Victoria Gardens where a number of wreaths will then be laid. This will follow ex-service men and women plus members of ex-service organisations and current serving military organisations gathering outside Leeds City Museum before marching to the war memorial at 10.30am.

Among those joining the Lord Mayor in the parade will be the Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Dame Ingrid Roscoe and the leader of Leeds City Council, Councillor Judith Blake. A two minute silence will also be held at 11am after the Last Post is played.

 

Councillor Jane Dowson said: “Remembrance Sunday is a time when the city comes together to honour the heroic efforts, achievements and sacrifices made by so many of our armed forces during times of conflict.”

In Sheffield, as service will take place at the city’s war memorial in Barker’s Pool. At the remembrance service, The Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor Anne Murphy, will lead a procession from Holly Street, near the City Hall, at 10.50am.

The ceremony will begin with the Exhortation read by Lieutenant Colonel Inglis of the 212 (Yorkshire) Field Hospital. The service will be conducted by the Lord Mayor’s Chaplain, Father Augustus O’ Reilly.

On parade will be ex-service personnel together with representatives of uniformed organisations in the city. The Vice Lord-Lieutenant, the Lord Mayor, the Master Cutler and representatives of the services and ex-services, as well as other organisations on parade, will lay wreaths on the war memorial.

In Hull, the Lord Mayor Councillor John Hewitt will attend the annual Service of Remembrance at the Hull Cenotaph on Sunday. The service will be conducted by the Reverend Canon Dr Neal Barnes, along with the Right Reverend Alison White, Bishop of Hull.

The March Past will consist of members from various veterans associations and will be led by the Humberside Police band and 150 Transport Regiment Band.

The public are welcome to attend the service, which starts at 10.55am.
