Service station group in the fast lane with six-figure bank deal

A Selby-based service station business has redeveloped and expanded its flagship premises, creating 15 jobs, with the help of a six-figure funding package.

NJB Services Group, established in 2004, has transformed a former filling station in Selby into a 2,000 sq ft modern service station, complete with a Spar convenience store, a Subway and an independent café.

The redeveloped premises now includes a number of features such as self-service tills, a launderette and the business’s own coffee shop brand Cheeky Café.

The group has plans to increase its workforce further over the next 12 months. In addition, the business expects to increase its turnover by 25% in the same period.

The HSBC funding follows closely on the back of a seven-figure funding package from the bank to enable NJB Services to acquire a new fuel filling station at Newton Park near Durham.

Nick Baker, director of NJB Services Group, said: “With HSBC’s financial backing we were able to exploit a gap in the local market for a service station that meets a whole range of demands from Selby residents, passing motorists and local workers.

“We have seen revenue double since the relaunch of the store and our new innovations such as the self-service laundrette and our own brand coffee shop have underpinned this growth.”

Adam Kelly, HSBC’s area director for North Yorkshire and Humber, said: “HSBC is proud to support an innovative business such as NJB Services Group. The new site looks excellent and it is a pleasure to see customers enjoying its many services. We look forward to seeing the business continue to grow and create local jobs.”

The deal was completed by Mike Craft, HSBC’s relationship director for North Yorkshire and Humber.
