Leeds-based mobile workforce technology specialist BigChange has been named as one of the winners in the Deloitte 2017 UK Technology Fast 50 awards.

The awards, now in their 20th year, recognise and rank the 50 fastest-growing technology companies in the UK, based on the last four years of revenue growth.

BigChange – which provides tracking software and integrated mobile apps to SMEs, corporates and public sector bodies across the UK, as well as in Europe, the US and Australia – was the only tech company in Yorkshire to make the Top 50, and one of only four throughout the North.

It achieved growth of 1,095% over the four-year period, placing it 25th in the top 50.

Chief executive Martin Port said: “To be included among the Fast 50 is a really big deal for us. It helps give us a national and international platform.

“We launched in 2012 and now employ 60 people, with sales of £7m. By 2020 we expect to be employing at least 120 people and generating sales of more than £20m.”

Matthew Hughes, Deloitte partner in Leeds, said: “BigChange has developed a strong market position in vehicle tracking software and other technologies for businesses with mobile workforces.

“It’s year-on-year growth over the past four years has been exceptional, and I hope its success inspires other technology companies in the region.”

Deliveroo was named the overall winner of the 2017 UK Technology Fast 50 awards. The London-based online food courier service achieved an average growth rate of 107,117% over the last four years. In the 20-year history of the Fast 50, no other company has ever grown at a faster rate.

Bloom & Wild (average growth rate of 13,818%) and MoveGB (6,063%) completed the top three.

David Cobb, lead partner for the Deloitte UK Technology Fast 50 programme, said: “The evolution of the UK Technology Fast 50 over the past 20 years demonstrates that there is no single secret formula for success.

“Yet, while much has changed over two decades, many of the characteristics that makes a Fast 50 winner remain. Winners tend to be those that have spotted, and capitalised on, market opportunities for tech-enabled growth in new and existing sectors.

“And when looking across all of the 662 unique winners over the last twenty years, it is easy to see that having a great product or service, knowing your customer and employing excellent staff are the common ingredients to help ensure fast-paced growth.”

Supporting Deloitte’s initiative for the UK’s fastest growing companies are the award sponsors DLA Piper, Oracle NetSuite and Silicon Valley Bank.
