Investment group opens new office

Mercia Fund Managers, part of Mercia Technologies, has opened an office in Leeds city centre.

The office, in the Platform building on New Station Street, is its second in Yorkshire. The business already has an office in Sheffield.

It comes just one month after Mercia Technologies PLC’s fund management subsidiaries, which include Enterprise Ventures and Mercia Fund Management, rebranded to Mercia Fund Managers.

Mercia’s investments include Leeds-based Science Warehouse, and the Sheffield companies Surecore, which provides low-power memory solutions for semiconductors, and Faradion, which is developing the next generation of battery materials.

Mercia has partnerships with the University of York and Sheffield Hallam University and, through its fund management arm Mercia Fund Managers, it manages part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund.

The business has a team of 19 in Yorkshire.

Mercia is focused on building its presence in the Leeds region, along with its seven other regional offices including Sheffield, Manchester, Edinburgh, Preston, Liverpool, Birmingham and its head office in Henley-in-Arden, Warwickshire.

Julian Viggars, NPIF equity fund manager and head of technologies at Mercia Fund Managers, said: “This is an exciting time for Mercia as we continue to build our team of experienced investment specialists and expand in Yorkshire. As part of our ambitious growth plans, we are looking forward to seeing the exciting opportunities from the region which we can invest in and help drive further growth across the North of England.”
