£6m York development completes

Work to transform a listed building in York which had stood empty for a number of years has completed.

A £6m student accommodation development on Lawrence Street in York has been handed over by Robertson Yorkshire & East Midlands.

The 115-bed premium student block located between the city centre and the University of York is a mix of studios and flats with one, two, three and five bedrooms, as well as communal facilities.

Paul Turner, managing director of Robertson Yorkshire & East Midlands, said: “We are delighted to deliver a greatly-needed high-specification development that will benefit the students of the University of York.

“In recent years, the campus has grown significantly, and this new facility will ensure that the university has vital accommodation for new and existing students.”

Work was carried out by Robertson Yorkshire & East Midlands on two listed buildings, the former St Lawrence Working Men’s Club and the adjacent Tam O’Shanter public house, as well as a new wing that was purpose-built for the new accommodation on behalf of Harrison Developments.
