Veterinary supplies business warned on unauthorised products

A North Yorkshire veterinary supplies business has been reprimanded by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate for marketing unauthorised products.

The Executive Agency of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has issued an improvement notice to VetUK.

The Thirsk-based business was found to have breached the Veterinary Medicines Regulations “for placing on the market unauthorised products presented for the treatment of joint disorders and as a veterinary wormer”.

In the notice the Directorate said that all non-compliant material must be removed from the VetUK website and that the sale or supply of all non-compliant labelled products must end.

VetUK was launched in 2005 as an online retailer supplying pet care products including toys, accessories, pet food, over-the-counter pet treatments, and veterinary prescription medicines.
