Parent company of marketing firm enters liquidation

The holding company of a digital marketing firm with offices in Huddersfield and Manchester has entered liquidation and will be wound up later this month.

Attercopia, which was formerly Growth UK and is based in St Georges Square in Huddersfield, has appointed Leonard Curtis business rescue and recovery in Leeds to commence liquidation proceedings.

They have also been appointed as liquidators for Label PR and Scenicus Digital Marketing – with a decision notice set for 20 December. The firms are connected by a common director, Stephen Harvey-Franklin.

Harvey-Franklin told TheBusinessDesk.com that the digital marketing arm of Attercopia is being acquired by himself in a joint venture with long-standing employees of the current firm. He said this would save the 25 jobs at the firm.

Harvey-Franklin said that the Brexit referendum and the general election had had a negative impact on the firm’s ability to secure new business, causing issues with overheads. He said: “We did not seem to be winning the right level of business. There is a natural attrition with customers and not bringing others on board was an issue.”

Harvey-Franklin added that pressures from HMRC “had got on top” of the firm. He added: “These things are not easy. It has been very stressful times for everybody, with the weight of everybody’s jobs on our shoulders. But we are getting everything into shape and we think we have now done that.”

The firm has made several acquisitions over the years and has been in its current form for around three years. Harvey-Franklin has worked in the sector for around 15 years and said it was a “blip on the path” of the company, adding: “The new company is on secure footing and jobs have been protected.

“We are looking to start the new year re-invigorated and ready for growth.”
