My Yorkshire – Matt Dale, G3

Matt Dale is managing director of Leeds-based car remarketing firm G3.
Where do you live/where are you from?

I’ve always live in Yorkshire, and I have most recently moved to the outskirts of Badsworth.

What is your favourite place to visit in Yorkshire and why?

Langsett Reservoir at the top of the Peak District. Take a stroll over the tops overlooking the reservoir on a crisp morning – the views and solitude are breath-taking.

What is still on your “to do” list in the region?
I often travel for both work and pleasure, so touring Yorkshire is sometimes put to the bottom of my list. Bolton Abbey is one place I’ve yet to visit, so that’s certainly at the top when the summer returns.

What is the most memorable meal you’ve ever had in Yorkshire?

It has to be from the Crab & Lobster in Thirsk – the food is always excellent.

What is your most Yorkshire trait?

My partner is from the south of England, so I often like correcting her when it comes to what is truly classed as dinner and tea time – she just doesn’t understand the Yorkshire way!

Favourite piece of trivia about the region.

If Yorkshire was an independent country, and not just the best part of a bigger union, we would have finished 12th at the 2012 Olympics! I know this is a little dated, however I feel everyone is proud of our sporting heritage and performance on an international level, and I’m glad the Tour de Yorkshire continues to raise the profile of the county.

What is your favourite cultural icon to come out of Yorkshire?

Percy Shaw – the inventor of the cats-eyes. So simple yet so effective.

Worst experience or thing about Yorkshire?

The winter darkness as it always seems to last a lifetime!

What is one thing you’d steal from Lancashire (or other UK regions) if you could?

Food – the traditional Lancashire pies and hotpots are among my favourites!

What is the most overrated thing about Yorkshire?
I’m not sure a proud Yorkshire man can answer this! We are very lucky to live in a county with such a wide spectrum of landscapes and activities. Maybe my football team, Leeds United, could qualify after the euphoria that followed them in the early weeks of this season, but unfortunately reality then kicked-in!
