People: Deloitte announces new leader for its Yorkshire practice; promotion at accountancy firm; Golf club appoints PGE pro as manager; and more

Business advisory firm Deloitte has appointed Stuart Cottee as the new practice senior partner for the firm in Yorkshire and the North East.

Cottee is an experienced tax partner, whose Deloitte career started at the firm’s Leeds office in 1993. He subsequently led the tax practice for Deloitte in Yorkshire and the North East for seven years until 2015.

More recently Cottee has been leading Deloitte’s private markets business for tax in the UK and is part of the firm’s Tax Executive and Private Markets Executive teams.

Cottee said: “I am absolutely delighted to be appointed as the practice senior partner, leading Deloitte in Yorkshire and the North East.

“I am very proud of the part I’ve played in growing our business in the region. We have fantastic partners, people and clients and I’m looking forward to working with them in my new role as we look to further grow our presence in the region.”

Leeds accountancy firm Thomas Coombs has promoted Peter Sawrij to partner.

Sawrij joined Thomas Coombs two years ago as a senior manager and has more than 15 years experience in practice dealing with a variety of businesses in various sectors.

He has experience in all aspects of accounts and audit including performing internal audits for FTSE listed companies at their sites all over the world.

Sawrij works with clients covering a wide range of sectors including engineering, property, manufacturing, retail and waste management.

Hallamshire Golf Club has appointed PGA professional James Glover to a newly-created position of general manager.

Glover joins Hallamshire in Sheffield from Queenwood Golf Club in Surrey where he was head professional.

Rotherham-born Glover joined Queenwood in 2009 as assistant professional before being promoted through the ranks to deputy director of golf.

He was previously a professional at Royal Portrush Golf Club, Northern Ireland, after starting his career as an assistant pro at Rotherham Golf Club.

Hallamshire’s chairman Rob Liversidge said: “Our current secretary Bob Hill is retiring which created the opportunity to look at way we run the club as a whole. Hallamshire is of one of the top private members clubs in the region and we want to enhance that in every way we can.

Barnsley-based manufacturers of water-based screen-printing inks MagnaColours has appointed a marketing manager.

Paul Arnold comes from a marketing and product development background, having received a degree in Design and Technology Management as well as a masters in Design, from the University of Leeds.

He spent five years as a key member of the global marketing team at fabric designer and manufacturer Camira Fabrics.

Helen Parry, managing director of MagnaColours, said: “We’re so pleased to be welcoming Paul to the Magna team. He will really help to strengthen and expand our market position, and help communicate effectively with both distributors and screen-printers about our offering and to bring new ideas to the business.
