Businesses can seek advice on exporting at upcoming DiT sessions

Local businesses in Yorkshire and the Humber looking to boost their exporting capabilities are set to benefit from the arrival of the Department for International Trade’s (DIT) mobile Export Hub next week.

As part of DIT’s Exporting is GREAT campaign, the Export Hub is touring the nation with a series of events to help businesses get started in overseas trade. The events will provide essential information on the benefits of exporting and the key steps and processes that need to be considered. Businesses will also learn about the ongoing support available from DIT.

Companies of all sizes are invited to take part in a ‘You can Export’ workshop, which will be hosted at the Village Hotel in Hull on Tuesday 23 January and at Ryedale Swimming Pool in Pickering, North Yorkshire, on Thursday 25 January.

In the year to September 2017, Yorkshire and the Humber businesses exported £16.4bn worth of goods, 5% of the UK total. DIT’s Exporting is GREAT campaign aims to help more businesses explore new markets overseas.

Yorkshire and the Humber businesses such as Red Herring Games, Aeroservices and Fizzy Blood have been helped to identify new exporting opportunities in the US, Africa and Singapore with the support of DIT advisers.

Mark Robson, DIT Regional Director for Yorkshire and the Humber, said: “The Export Hub provides a great opportunity for businesses across the region to learn more about the opportunities offered by exporting. The series of events will encourage, educate and support SMEs as they look to discover new markets.

“There is a strong demand across the world for UK goods and services, and many of Yorkshire and the Humber’s businesses are already finding success abroad. DIT is on hand to help firms manage common barriers to exporting such as cost, language and administration.

“The roadshow will run alongside other initiatives including meet the buyer events, trade missions and masterclasses on exporting and selling online, for businesses across the region. We’re encouraging all firms to visit the Hub and register for a workshop.”

DIT has 29 experienced international trade advisers in Yorkshire and the Humber, as well as staff based around the world. They are ready to provide you with expert trade advice, market know-how and practical support for international growth.
