People: Business advisory firm recruits new partner; Senior associate recruited at Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth; and more

Morag Miller has joined Armstrong Watson to head up the firm’s healthcare sector.

Based at their Leeds office, Miller joins Armstrong Watson from BDO and has taken up the role of partner, bringing with her team members Anna-Marie Burke and Andrea Burnett.

Miller has extensive experience within the medical sector, having worked with NHS organisations (primary and secondary care) and latterly, GPs, providing compliance, advisory and consultancy services.

Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth has appointed a new senior associate solicitor to its tax, trust and estates team in Leeds as it seeks to further grow across the North of England.

Andrea Jones joins from Ward Hadaway in Leeds where she advises high-net-worth and commercial clients on wills and trusts, estate administration, tax planning, powers of attorney and court of protection issues. She is also experienced in dealing with international matters and inheritance planning.

With over a decade of experience as a solicitor, Jones is also a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and is a committee member for the STEP Yorkshire branch.

She is also a founding member and vice-chair of the Collaborative Professionals Network which is a collaboration of several professional bodies in Yorkshire to promote networking between legal, accounting and business professionals in the Yorkshire region.

At the recent AGM of the Harrogate and District Law Society, the presidency passed from Kate Maybury of Raworths Solicitors to Andrew Gray of Truth Legal solicitors.

Maybury said: “I would just like to say how much of an honour it has been to be the Harrogate and Law Society President in the 99th year of our existence and that I’m very pleased that Andrew Gray is taking on the role of president in its centenary year – he’s innately energetic, full of ideas and has already got some great plans for the year ahead.”

On becoming president, Gray set out his agenda for the year ahead, which included highlighting to local people and the wider region the high calibre of the legal professionals in the area, as well as strengthening relationships with the Citizens Advice Bureau.

Gray said: “Kate is an impossible act to follow. She has brought dynamism, energy and stature to the role. Without doubt, Kate’s year has been hugely successful. We all owe Kate a debt of gratitude.”

Gray founded Truth Legal solicitors in Harrogate in 2012 and is an experienced personal injury, clinical negligence and employment law solicitor.

The firm has since expanded to York, Manchester and London.

Stephen Beverley has joined economiser and waste heat recovery specialist Green’s as business development director, a new role at the Wakefield-based company.

His focus will be on continuing to grow the company’s business in the UK and overseas with increasing emphasis on providing energy and cost saving solutions for Energy from Waste (EFW) and biomass applications.

Beverley previously worked for Doosan Babcock in business development in the process and oil & gas sectors. Prior to that he worked in engineering management for EDF and the Royal Air Force.
