Red’s True Barbecue closes London branch

Red’s True Barbecue, which was founded in Leeds, has announced the closure of its London Shoreditch branch – almost three years after opening the site with a £1.4m investment.

The restaurant firm posted the closure announcement on their website, stating: “We’re sad to announce the doors of this branch of true BBQ are now closed for the final time.

“Our initial strategy was to always grow out a London presence with Shoreditch as an operational hub. Whilst importantly this restaurant remains profitable, current market forces have made it challenging to support growth of the hub and spoke model in the South, and it is for this reason we have decided to sadly say goodbye to Red’s Shoreditch.

“Our heartland, operational and brand strength remains solid in the midlands, north, north east and north west and so we will continue to consolidate our efforts in the regions.”

Red’s True Barbecue has two branches in Leeds – on in Headingley and another on Call Lane in the city centre – as well as a branch on Ecclesall Road in Sheffield. In addition, the company has branches in Manchester, Liverpool and Nottingham.

Red’s continued in their statement: “We’re hugely grateful for the amazing hard work of the Red’s family down here who have done an incredible job – we’re immensely proud of what they have achieved since we first opened the doors in July 2015. A heartfelt thank you.”
