My Yorkshire: Mike Roberts, PMG Print Management

Mike Roberts is the managing director of Birstall-based PMG Print Management.

Where do you live/where are you from?
I’m originally from Pontefract, I now live in Sandal in Wakefield.

What is your favourite place to visit in Yorkshire and why?
A decent pub with a decent meal and ale.

What is still on your “to do” list in the region?
I still need to visit The Black Swan, in Oldstead, near the North York Moors. It was recently voted the best restaurant in the world so I’m very intrigued!

What is the most memorable meal you’ve ever had in Yorkshire?
The most memorable meal I’ve ever had has to be when I visited Anthony’s in Leeds, it’s now closed but it was supposedly a Michelin Star restaurant, we were served a strange jelly which the French Maître D advised was a ‘Cockerel’s crown’, it was odd and slimy, like mushroom. Not to be repeated.

What is your most Yorkshire trait?
I’m believe in honest straight talking and getting straight to the point.

Favourite piece of trivia about the region.
One of my passions, rugby league, was born and bred in Yorkshire.

What/who is your favourite cultural icon to come out of Yorkshire?
As I’m a huge rugby fan, I’d have to say Jason Robinson. He’s from Leeds and has played both league and union formats of the game, winning the 2003 Rugby World Cup in the process!

Worst experience or thing about Yorkshire?
Junction 27 on the M62! PMG is based in Birstall so I have to drive it everyday and it’s an absolute nightmare.

What is one thing you’d steal from Lancashire (or other UK regions) if you could?
Mrs Kirkman’s Lancashire cheese! We have a cheese-off with our friends and I have to say theirs is pretty fantastic. Also, black pudding!

What is the most overrated thing about Yorkshire?
What can be over rated about God’s own county? Although if I had to say something, maybe the accent.
