Leeds City Region unveils MIPIM programme

Leeds City Region has announced its programme of activity for the international property conference MIPIM.

The programme includes over nine panel sessions, a series of presentation slots and two networking events. It has been developed in conjunction with attending local authorities and the private sector delegation, the latter of which fund the majority of all the City Region’s activity at the international conference.

The programme aims to showcase the region’s recent successes which have seen it recognised as a leading destination for investment and emphasising the opportunities that exist for the global audience of investors and developers attracted by MIPIM every year.

Highlights from the programme include a Northern Powerhouse panel session featuring Leeds City Region alongside Greater Manchester, Liverpool City Region, Newcastle and Gateshead Partnership and Sheffield City Region focused on Northern Style.

In addition, the programme also includes panel sessions on topics including:
·         How a Leeds City Region and London partnership benefits the UK economy in conjunction with the London Economic Action Partnership (LEAP)
·         The development opportunities being unlocked through transport investment such as the East Leeds Extension
·         How culture and sport are key drivers for regeneration in the region, for example Rutland Mills in Wakefield

The programme also includes presentation slots which will act as a springboard for a number of key announcements during the week, such as Bradford City Council announcing its plans and opportunities around a number of new development sites.

Cllr Susan Hinchcliffe, Leader of Bradford City Council and Chair of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, who is attending the conference, said: “It’s crucially important for the region to have a strong, unified and dynamic presence at MIPIM to ensure we continue to increase our levels of investment and as result deliver inclusive economic growth for the people who live and work here. I’m pleased that private sector support has continued to grow for the City Region’s delegation and I look forward to us working together across this programme to raise the international profile of Bradford and the City Region. In particular I’m delighted that Bradford will have a number of new development opportunities to launch during the conference display and I look forward to meeting with international investors and developers to highlight the scale of the opportunities in the district.”

Roger Marsh, chair of Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership, which co-ordinates the City Region’s presence at MIPIM, said: “Leeds City Region’s MIPIM 2018 programme is our most ambitious to date and this is a direct result of the continued and growing support of the region’s private sector, which funds the vast majority of our activity at the conference. I also look forward to joining colleagues from across the region and the North of England to highlight the unique opportunities that exist in this part of the world.”

Dr. Edward Ziff, chairman and chief executive of Town Centre Securities PLC, a long time sponsor of Leeds City Region’s MIPIM attendance, added: “The strong commitment of both the public and private sector is crucial in delivering the presence at MIPIM which the Leeds City Region as a leading destination for investment and the largest city region outside of London deserves. As such, Town Centre Securities (TCS) are pleased to support with colleagues from across the industry in order to highlight our region’s recent successes through this programme and also showcase the future opportunities which will help achieve inclusive economic growth.”

The region’s MIPIM 2018 programme will look to further boost the profile of the City Region which since September 2017 has had nine new successful investments reported creating 1,244 jobs.

Support for the Leeds City Region’s attendance at MIPIM 2018 has continued to grow over recent months and the region’s private sector delegation is now the largest to date.
