Ice cream company scoops funding for expansion

A family-run ice cream parlour in Doncaster’s Sunnybank Gardens has created 10 jobs after opening a new café and tea rooms with the help of a six-figure bank deal.

Husband and wife Edward and Rebecca Storey who own The Yorkshire Ice Cream Shop have used the refinancing deal from NatWest to expand and transform what was once a small parlour space into a 100 seat tea room.

The Ice Cream Shop and Tea Rooms has now opened its doors to the public.

Mr and Mrs Storey set up The Yorkshire Ice Cream Farm in 2013, after selling ice cream made by other retailers for more than 20 years.

Rebecca follows in her grandmother’s footsteps, who made and sold her own ice cream at the Seaside Shop and Café in Bridlington as far back as the early 1900s.

The couple also have their own restaurant and supply the Yorkshire Wildlife Park with tubs of ice cream for visitors.

The new tea rooms at Sunnybank has created ten new full and part time jobs.

Rebecca said: “We’ve worked in the food industry all our lives and when we opened The Yorkshire Ice Cream Farm four years ago, we were finally able to realise our dream of making and selling our own ice cream, rather than other people’s. Our ice creams are made on site and they have been hugely popular. The new tea rooms is the next step for our business growth plans and the refinancing from NatWest has freed up the funds to enable us to realise our ambitions. We only opened a few days ago and despite the recent cold weather we’ve had lots of people through the doors.”

Matthew Coatsworth, relationship manager at NatWest, said: “Rebecca and Edward are extremely passionate about what they do and the quality of their ice cream certainly speaks for itself. The new café and tea rooms will be a welcome addition to Sunnybank Gardens, not only creating a new stream of income, but also creating new jobs in the process. We wish them both the best of luck for the future of their latest endeavour.”
