Cladding specialist to enter administration

Leeds-based cladding specialist Cover Structure is to enter administration.

The firm, which has 40 staff and is based at Cross Green Industrial Park, is currently the main cladding contractor on the £250m Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) – where Robertson is the main contractor.

Robertson chief executive officer Derek Shewan said Robertson had been made aware on Friday that Cover Structure was unfortunately about to go into administration.

“We worked proactively over the weekend to find a solution that would ensure the continuation of the project, while securing the jobs of the contractors employed by Cover Structure,” he told the Aberdeen Evening Express.

“It is envisaged that Robertson will take over the remainder of the subcontract directly, including securing equipment and materials, while maintaining the existing operatives in their roles.

“We do not anticipate any delay to the completion of the AECC project.”

Cover Structure has been in business since 1991.

It has worked on schemes including Kirkstall Bridge Shopping Park in Leeds, Vangarde Shopping Park near York, and Sheffield Digital Campus.

Latest results at Companies House for the year to the end of December 2016 show the company made a pre-tax profit of £362,000 from a turnover of £24.3m.

According to Construction Enquirer, Cover Structure is also working for Simons Construction on a new £53m private hospital in Edgbaston, for Graham Construction on a residential block at Weavers Quay in Manchester and GMI at Thorpe Park in Leeds.

Cover Structure has been approached for comment.
