New date set for the Business of Sport Forum

Northern businesses are being invited to a join the re-scheduled business of sport forum which will see speakers share insights into how sports like cycling, endurance and rugby play their part in supporting business across the region.

The Game Changers Business of Sport Forum event has been re-scheduled for May 17 after a postponement to the March 1 date due to heavy snow.

Keynote speaker is blogger, endurance athlete, model and adventurer Sophie Radcliffe. She is the only person in history to have cycled between – and then climbed – the highest mountains in eight Alpine countries, conquering them all on foot and by bike in just 32 days. Peter Dodd, commercial director at Welcome Yorkshire, will discuss Yorkshire and the Cycling Revolution.

Other speakers include Jon Dutton, chief executive of the Rugby League World Cup 2021, Matthew Johnson, Titleist Golf brand director, Jonathan Rigby, commercial director at British Cycling and Richard Brinkman, commercial director at global marketing agency Nielsen Sports. Gary Hetherington, Chief Executive of Leeds Rhinos will be providing an update on the Headingley Development and will host the event.

Each speaker will bring their own unique insight into the relationship between sport and business, from the economic impact of hosting a major international event to maximising commercial revenue in sport.

It will take place on Thursday 17 May from 12-5pm at Aspire in Leeds,  with many guests from across the North expected to attend. It is a joint venture between Leeds marketing agency Banana Kick who conceived the idea and will be managing the event, Leeds Business Improvement District (LeedsBID) and TheBusinessDesk.com

Banana Kick Chief Exec Gary McCall commented: “This is a first class line up of speakers who have a real understanding of the game changing benefits that sport and business can create. Taking place on the same day as the Leeds Sports Awards, it’s another great reminder of what sport can achieve in Leeds, Yorkshire and beyond.”

LeedsBID Chief Executive Andrew Cooper added: “We are delighted Leeds is staging this new business event which not only reinforces the important role sport plays in our city but also its impact on a broader scale.

“LeedsBID is very much an advocate of what can be achieved by bringing sectors together to work collaboratively and this forum will help to illustrate that.”

Tickets are priced at £60 plus VAT, which includes a networking lunch and the event is also targeting the Game Changers of the future with 50 subsidised tickets available to university students on sports business courses.

Please note that tickets purchased for the original date of March 1 will still be valid for this re-scheduled  event
